Dr Melanie Gibson, BA (Oxon) MA, PhD (SOAS, London University) is Senior Editor of the Gingko Library Arts Series. She has extensive lecturing experience in a variety of museum and educational contexts including the Courtauld, SOAS, London University, New College of the Humanities as well as the British Museum, the Victoria & Albert Museum, Sotheby’s Institute of Art, the Institute of Ismaili Studies in London and the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha.
From 2012-2016 she was head of the Art History faculty at New College of the Humanities, London. From 2006-2017 she was director and tutor of the ‘Arts of the Islamic World’ module at SOAS, London University. She has lectured on Islamic ceramics and glass, as well as more widely on art and architecture, for several other institutions: the Courtauld Institute, the Aga Khan University, the Victoria & Albert Museum, the British Museum, Sotheby’s Institute of Art and the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha, Qatar.
She became a fellow of the Royal Asiatic Society in 1983 and has been involved with a number of organizations as a trustee, acting as council member for the Oriental Ceramic Society in 2010-2013 and as council member and outreach officer for the British Institute of Persian Studies in 2013-2018. In 2015 she became executive trustee for Gingko, a charity promoting dialogue with the Middle East through conferences, publications, public events and cultural programmes and a year later she became a trustee of Leighton House, the former home of the Victorian artist Frederic, Lord Leighton with its famous ’Arab Hall’.
